Blue Devils, Baltic Hurricanes, Mercenaries, Dolphins, Vikings, Lions, Titans…

Worte der Superlative, die beim Lesen in die Welt des American Footsballs führen der sie entliehen sind. Eine Welt des Teamgeistes, der männlichen Stärke, auch der klischeehaften Übertreibung. Schimmernde Stoffe, Glitzerregen, Cheerleaders begleiten diese Phanatsiewelt des „american way of live“. Nicht nur in der Wahl des Titels Ihrer Serie „vikings, falcons, unicorns“ assoziiert Kathrin Rabenort diese Welt des American Footballs, auch ihre Objekte, Fotografien und Collagen beziehen sich auf das Spiel und die Uniformen der Spieler. Diese bedienen das Klischee: breite, mit Polstern verstärkte Schultern, welche die Hüften noch schmaler erscheinen lassen. Eng anliegende Stretchstoffe betonen das Muskelspiel. Dieses Formen und Verformen des menschlichen Körpers nimmt Rabenort als Ausgangspunkt für ihre stofflichen Objekte und Skulpturen: sie abstrahiert einzelne Elemente z. B. das aufgepolsterte und gespannte Schulterstück der Sportuniform. Über Vervielfachen, Drehen und Spiegeln entwickelt die Künstlerin so eine Schnittkonstruktion für ihre Objekte. Die bekannten Formen werden verfremdet und überhöht, ohne ihre Assoziationswelt zu verlieren. Dafür sorgen schon alleine die verwendeten Stofffarben, wie silber, gold, glänzendes rot und grün… Für die Fotoarbeit der Serie nimmt Rabenort die Schnittkonstruktion einer Originaluniform ab, verkleinert sie auf Kindergröße, näht die Sport-Uniform nach und passt sie einer Puppe an. Wie ein Modell wird die Puppe im Fotostudio portraitiert. Das Format der entstandenen Fotoarbeit ist überlebensgroß, doch vergleichende Maßstäbe fehlen und so bleibt das Spiel mit den Größenverhältnissen offen. Aus Fotografien der American Football Player schneidet Rabenort die Figuren heraus. Es bleiben körperliche Fragmente stehen, die sie zu einer neuen, teils surrealen Ordnung zusammensetzt. Ausgestellt im Museum für Moderne Kunst, Krakau.

Blue Devils, Baltic Hurricanes, Mercenaries, Dolphins, Vikings, Lions, Titans…words of superlative, who leads by reading them, into the world of American Football, out of which they are borrowed. A world of team spirit, male strength and also clichéd exaggeration. Glimmering fabrics, sparkling rain, cheerleaders are accompanying this phantasy world of the “American way of life”. Not only the choice of Kathrin Rabenorts serial title “Vikings, Falcons, Unicorns” leads into this kind of teamsport. Also her objets d’art, photographs and photo collages referring to the play and its uniform. This sportswear confirms a popular clichè: broud, sturdily padded shoulders, which makes the hips look even more svelte.  Tight-fitting stretch fabrics accentuate the muscle play. This forming und deforming of the human body takes Rabenort as a starting point for her materially defined objets d’art and sculptures: she abstracts formal elements from the overall context, like the upholstered and tensioned part of the shoulder. By duplication, multiplication and mirroring she creates pattern constructions for new alienated forms. The well known forms will be heightened and exaggerated without loosing their world of association. Already the used fabric colours, like silver, gold, glittering red and shiny green ensure this. For the photo piece of the series Rabenort copied the cut of the original clothing, scaled it down to children-size, resewed the sport-uniform and costumize it to a puppet. Like a model posed the doll in the photostudio for her portrait. The format of the final photo is larger than life-sized, but a comparative scale is missing: so the play with the size-relation remains open. Photographs of American football players formed the basis for the collage works. Rabenort cuts out segments of the figures, and reassembles the remaining physical fragments into a new, partly surreal arrangement. Exhibited at Museum of Moderne Art, Krakau.

Ausgeschnittene Anteile der American Football Spieler, mit Abstand auf Hahnenmühlepapier positioniert. Aus dem Zusammenhang der Fotografie entnommen – entfalten die Körpertorsen ihre skulpturale Wirkung. Teilweise finden auch mehrere Körper eine gemeinsame skulpturale Form. Die abgeschnittenen Körperteile werden assoziiert und verstärken die visuelle formale Bewegung.

Cut-outs of American football players arranged at varying intervals on Hahnenmühle paper. Taken out of the context of the photograph, the torsos reveal their sculptural quality. In some cases, several bodies merge into a single sculptural form. The cut-out body parts are connected to one another, thereby enhancing the visual formal movement.
